Barfi
in one line “is an act of a genius….!”
If one has to discover
the true meaning of love here is a movie that will define it, better than any
of the movies seen so far. In all senses be it, Anurag Basu’s Love for film
making or Ranbir Kapoor & Priyaka Chopras Love for giving some brilliant
performances this movie just epitomizes it.
The movie begins Murphy
a.k.a Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor) a deaf & dumb boy placed in the beautiful locations
of Darjeeling. Inspite of all the impediments the character murphy is always
true and lives life to the fullest.
Barfi encounters his short
lived first love Shruti Ghosh (Ileana D’Cruz), who in search of secure future
leaves Barfi. But Shruti’s love for Barfi just never ends. Here enters Jhilmil
Chatterjee (Priyanka Chopra) suffering from Autism estranged by family and in
search of love which she finds only in Barfi.
Here starts the heart-warming
selfless journey of love between Jhilmil & Barfi which repeatedly send out
a message “biggest virtue in life is finding happiness in the smallest things
in life”.
The message that Barfi
shares is “ when we fall in love, we do so without thinking, we never decide
and love… it just happens”.
Coming to individual
credits, let me start with the man who had shown to the world that even if your
characters have drawbacks, you need not show them sympathetically and draw
audience. Instead you show it as their strength that every one can’t resist
falling in love with them. Anurag Basu has just done that. His passion for the
movie making just shows up in every picture frame carved so beautifully, in
every expression which he extracted immaculately from the characters and in
every dialogue that was said and sometimes not
said.
Standing ovation to
this new age director who loves making cinema only for the love of it…!
Coming to the actors,
let me start with someone who literally lives in character that he portrays be
it Jordan in Rockstar or Barfi in Barfi. The greatest achievement for Ranbir is
he was able to make audience feel for the character that is been portrayed but not
for the actor himself. That is the mark of great performer. Just watch the 3
minute performance where in Barfi walks out of Shruti’s house after getting
rejected for marriage. You will know what I am talking about..!
Coming to Priyanka
Chopra, her performance just stands out. Playing an autistic role completely
shedding her vanity is not easy. All the hard work that has been put by
Priyanka clearly show up on screen.
Last about the new find
Ileana D’Cruz, in spite of limited screen space she just brings in the touch of
glamour & elegance to her character. She too has done a good job.
Ever
dependable Suarabh Shukla delivers this time as well.
The two people who
should be also credited are Pritam for some outstanding numbers & background
score and Ravi Varman the cinematographer for making it picture perfect.
Lastly, watch Barfi to
find what really the word life & love means. It defines it.
All
in all this Barfi is too tasty to resist …..Go and savor it.
