Movie Review : MIB 3 – IT’S ALL IN THE PAST NOW..!

Cast: Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement, Michael Stuhlbarg & Emma Thompson
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Producer: Walter.F.Parkes & Laurie MacDonald
Duration: 106 Minutes
Barry Sonnenfeld got his “Men in Black” back, all over again for the third time after 10 long years of waiting. This time “Boys in Black” are more stylish, sleek and have retained their funny bone.
Tommy Lee Jones as Agent-K & Will Smith as Agent-J are set to travel back into past and do what they do best – protecting planet from ugly looking aliens.
The movie begins as “Boris the Animal” played by Jemaine Clement escapes from Lunar Max Prison with the help of his girlfriend played by Nicole (Pussycat Doll). Boris is all set to travel back to complete the unfinished business i.e to stop the ArcNet shield being installed around the earth and also to take his revenge on Agent-K for what he has done to him.
Agent-J & Agent-O played by Emma Thompson, the new chief of MIB department realizes that Boris has killed Agent-K and deactivated ArcNet by traveling back into time, as all the traces of Agent-K have been removed from the present world.
Now, its time for Agent-J to travel back in to time complete the business of restoring the ArcNet, saving the life of Agent-K and obviously killing Boris.
As, the Agent-J goes to back to 1969 where it all started, he meets younger Agent-K played by Josh Brolin, with whom he teams up and with help of Griffin who has an eye to predict the future played by Michael Stuhlbarg how they stop Boris is the plot of the story.
For me personally the way director narrated & shot the last 15 minutes of the movie at the backdrop of launch of Apollo 11 is the highlight of the movie. Do not miss it as you might get lucky with Agent-K’s past.
Two thumps up for the special effects and cinematography by Bill Pope, they truly take the movie to a new level. Poor editing & some cold performance by Tommy Lee Jones have been my personnel let down. Performances from Will Smith & Michael Stuhlbarg truly stands out.
Overall MIB-3 may not be a great movie but definitely it’s worth watching.

Department – A Bad Cocktail Mix

Cast: Amitabh Bachan, Sanjay Dutt, Rana Dagubbati, Vijay Raaz, Abhimanyu Singh & Madhu Shalini.
Director: Ram Gopal Verma
Producer: Siddhant Oberoi & Amit Sharma
Duration: 150 Minutes

The movie Department starts with a quote “Power Corrupts –Absolute Power Corrupts Absolute” let me rephrase it “Bad Movie Fails – Absolute Bad Movie Fails Absolute”.

As I was watching Department, the first thing that came across my mind was, is this the same director who has made movies like Satya, Company & Sarkar that changed the course of Hindi cinema.

In one line Department is a cocktail mix of “Ab Thak Chappan, Company & Sarkar” which has went horribly wrong in every aspect. Poor story line, pathetic camera work, irritating background score, meaningless songs & some cold performances just adds another nail in audience’s misery coffin.

Sticking to RGV’s forte, Department shows the nexus between police, mafia & politics. Set in the backdrop of Mumbai, story begins as the government decides to start a new anti mafia department headed by the most happening officer Mahadev Bhosale played by Sajay Dutt. Mahadev ropes in a suspended cop Shiv Narain played by Rana Dagubbati in his team to wipe out the leading gangsters Sawathiya played by Vijay Raaz and his rival Mohammad Ghauri.

Another angle to the story is Sarjerao Gaikwad played by Mr.Amitabh Bachchan who is a gangster turned politician.  The story unfolds as Shiv Narain gets to know Mahadev, whom he has idolized actually works for Mohammad Ghauri.

Mahadev with help of Sawathiya’s gang member D.K played by Abhimanyu Singh & his hot girl friend Naseer played by Madhu Shalini starts a new gang to eliminate Sawathiya so that Mohammad Ghauri can have absolute control over Mumbai.

On the other hand Shiv Narain who wins in the confidence of Sarjerao Gaikwad by saving his life from an attack comes to know that Sawathitya actually works for Sarjerao Gaikwad & the government.

How Shiv Narain takes on Mahdev & D.K with help of Sarjerao Gaikwad is the crux of the story.

Coming to individual performances except for Rana Daggubati who tries to put in an honest effort & Sanjay Dutt in bits & pieces, remaining bunch has nothing to offer. It is a shame that legend like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan has not been used to his fullest capacity.

All in all Department proves to be another default piece from RGV factory which fails to connect with the audience. Watch it at your own risk…!

Ishaqzaade – Pulsating Parindey

Cast:  Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra & Gauhar Khan.
Director: Habib Faisal
Producer: Aditya Chopra
Duration: 150 Minutes

Halalon mein haramo mein jo miltey they hazaron mein ishaqzaade…!

After watching this 150minute flick I could not agree more than with the above statement.  As audience Bollywood over the years has subjected us to candy floss romance. Breaking the shackles Habib Faisal carved his niche out of Ishaqzaade. In spite of predictable story line, the way director has narrated the script on screen, for that I would give a complete thumps up and that makes this movie worth a watch.

The plot of the movie is set in an imaginative law-less place called armor in Northern part of India, where in to two families the Chauhan’s & Qureshi’s were caught in power tussle. Zoya Qureshi played by Parineeti Chopra & Parma Chauhan played by Arjun Kapoor, keeping the family traditions alive hate each other to the core and are at each other life’s.

The story over turns when both fell in love with each other. The way Zoya & Parma lead their journey of love and reach the perfect end  is all about Isaqzaade.

Firstly, the person that should be credited for the movie is the director Habib Faisal, who narrated the predictable story line in a completely un-conventional way. At no point of time the audience would feel disconnected with the movie. Real time locations, rugged slang, witty humor and some honest performances just make the movie amicable for the audience. The one aspect which stands out personally for me is, you never get to be saddened or sympathize with the lead characters till the end.

Coming to individual performances the shining star of the movie is truly Parineeti Chopra who just lived in the role of Zoya Qureshi. Her honest & innocent performance truly mesmerizes the audiences. If this be true, take my words we have a star in making. Coming to Arjun Kapoor, who eased in to the role of rugged Parma is too good for a new comer. But, to be critical in some scenes he has just fell short. Lastly, a cameo by Gauhar Khan as Chand Baby is true to the effort and adds that zing to the movie.

Before the verdict, I would like to share the other two important factors that really adds to the movie are, Music & Background score by Amit Trivedi and Cinematography by Hemanth Chaturvedi.
Finally, as stated these Ishaqzaade’s will not let you down. Do not miss it…!

Jannat 2 – Heaven’s Fall
Cast:  Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta, Randeep Hooda, Manish Choudhary, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Brijendra kala
Director: Kunal Deshmukh
Producer: Vishesh Films, Fox Star Studios.
Duration: 150 Minutes

After the successful Jannat in 2008, Kunal Deshmukh brings his Jannat-2 admist huge expectations, but unfortunately the film does not match up to it.

Jannat-2 mainly revolves around the life of small arms dealer Sonu Dilli KKC- Kutti Kameeni Cheez played by Emraan Hashmi. His life takes a complete u turn as he falls in love with Jhanvi Tomar played by the debutant Esha Gupta.

Randeep Hooda as Pratap Raghuvanshi, plays the role of tough &; retard cop who is on a mission to eliminate arms mafia with the help of Sonu Dilli. The main plot of the movie is the moral dilemma that the lead character dwindles i.e choosing between his search for heaven and morality. Kunal Dehsmukh’s directorial brilliance should be acknowledged especially the way he has treated the last 30 minutes of the movie not to forget the ending though.
Coming to individual performances Emraan without any difficulty slips in the character of Sonu - KKC doing what he does best. Speaking of the new debutant Esha Gupta, even though her role do not provide her much scope, she proves that she has certainly got talent which comes in bits & pieces on screen. If one performance that audience can carry home with them, it would be that of Randeep hooda who mesmerizes the audience with his rugged and intense performance. Other actors like Manish Choudhary, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Brijendra kala delivered good performances.
Like all Vishesh films this flick too has some extra-ordinary music which indeed adds on to the movie. Censor Board of India certified the movie as A and Kunal Deshmukh has made the most of it with some cheesy dialogues.

Overall Jannat –2 may not be as good as Jannat but definitely worth giving a try. Trust me …!
